The Digital Circuits and Systems Theme focuses on the essential digital circuits -- for memory, for logic, and for communication -- that must be successfully realized in each new CMOS node, in the face of growing problems with power, variability and now even reliability. The team strives to look at the problems associated with the most advanced, most scaled process nodes, while exploring a wide range of solutions: synchronous and asynchronous logic; bitcell, peripheral and overall memory architecture; on-chip long-distance signaling; power and clock distribution; novel strategies for power reduction, and variation-tolerance.
